The survey revealed that out of over 11,000 individuals who reported using psychedelics, only a small fraction—4.2%—required emergency medical assistance.
Adam Winstock, the founder of the Global Drug Survey and a consultant addiction psychiatrist, emphasises the importance of caution when using magic mushrooms to avoid accidentally consuming the wrong type.
“Magic mushrooms are incredibly safe,” Winstock explains. “It is extremely rare for toxicity to lead to death from poisoning, unlike with other types of fungi that pose a much greater risk of serious harm.”
When it comes to taking genuine magic mushrooms, the risks are minimal. However, it’s worth noting that there is still a possibility of having a less-than-pleasant experience.
